The charm of 'Cukang Taneuh', Green Canyon Pangandaran

The United States may have Green Canyon in Colorado. However, Pangandaran, West Java, also has a Green Canyon, which is no less exotic. Both have the name Green Canyon; this tourist spot in Pangandaran offers views of towering natural cliffs decorated with shady green trees.

Cukang Taneuh, or people who know him better by the name Green Canyon is a river tourism object owned by West Java, located in Kertayasa Village, Cijulang District, Ciamis Regency, approximately 31 km from Pangandaran.

This location was formed from soil erosion due to the flow of the Cijulang River for millions of years which penetrates a cave with stunning stalactites and stalagmites and is flanked by two hills with rocks and thick trees. Cukang Taneuh presents unique and challenging natural attractions.

The term Green Canyon warn from three foreign travelers who visited the Cukang Taneuh area. According to the story, the three foreign travelers came to Cukang Taneuh while walking along the Cijulang River accompanied by a tour guide from Pangandaran.

At first, they did not think that in this area, hidden natural beauty is very enchanting. The water is transparent green from the river, and green moss abounds on the cliff sides. Due to their admiration for the beauty of Cukang Taneuh, they finally named the place "Green Canyon."

Rent a Boat

For residents, Cukang Taneuh has the meaning of "land bridge." This is because, over the valley and ravine from Cukang Taneuh, there is a bridge made of land used by local farmers to go to their gardens.

In the past, the people around the location were believed to be haunted and creepy. It's not surprising that most people are reluctant to visit the area; maybe only a few people dare to go there, and even then, people usually hunt snakes and monitor lizards.

To reach this place, you have to rent a boat from Ciseureuh Pier and travel approximately 30-45 minutes with a distance of about 3 km. Boat ticket fares range from IDR 200,000, which can be obtained at the ticket counter, with this price including insurance with a maximum of 5 passengers. Green Canyon Nature Tourism operates every day from 7.30 - 16.00 WIB.
